Key takeaways
- A free crypto trading simulator on live CEX.IO prices: $10,000 virtual balance, no sign-up, nothing to install.
- Fills use the live best bid and ask plus a 0.1% fee, so the spread and costs are real, but slippage and emotions are not.
- The AI coach explains RSI, trend, volatility and market mood for the chart you are looking at. It never tells you to buy or sell.
- Practice grid and DCA bots run on the same live feed, so you can watch the strategies from our guides play out in minutes.
Most people learn trading the expensive way: a first deposit, a first panic sale, a first lesson. This crypto trading simulator lets you make those mistakes with play money instead. It runs on the same live market data as a real exchange, with the same order types, and adds an AI coach that explains what you are looking at in plain English.
It is built for beginners who want to understand order books and stop-losses before risking money, and for anyone who wants to test a grid or DCA idea on today's market rather than on a backtest from last year.
How the crypto trading simulator works
When you open the page, your browser connects directly to the public market-data feed of CEX.IO. Candles load over the REST API, and a WebSocket stream then pushes the live order book and recent trades several times a second. The price on the chart, the spread you pay and the fills you get all come from that stream.
Your demo account lives in your browser's local storage. It starts with $10,000 in virtual cash. Market orders fill instantly at the best available price: buys at the lowest ask, sells at the highest bid. Limit orders wait until the live price reaches your level. Every fill pays a simulated 0.1% fee, roughly the level many exchanges charge at the base tier, so small, frequent trades show their true cost.
| Feature | What it does | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Live candles | 1m to 1d timeframes with EMA 20 and EMA 50 | Read trend and momentum on the real market |
| Order book + trades | Top 8 bids and asks with depth bars, live trade tape | See liquidity and the spread you actually pay |
| Market and limit orders | Instant fills or resting orders at your price | Learn the difference between taking and making liquidity |
| Stop-loss and take-profit | Set as a % from your entry; triggers automatically | Practise the habit that protects real accounts |
| Indicators panel | RSI 14, EMA trend, ATR volatility, recent range | Context for every decision, explained by the AI coach |
| Coin snapshot + mood | Market cap, supply, ATH distance, Fear & Greed | Fundamentals and sentiment next to price |
Your first practice session in six steps
If you have never placed an order before, follow this order. It takes about ten minutes and covers the skills that matter most in real trading.
Pick a pair and a timeframe
Start with BTC-USD on the 15m chart. Bitcoin has the deepest order book, so the spread is tight and fills are realistic.
Read the indicators before you act
Check RSI, the EMA trend and volatility. Press Explain this chart if any number is unclear.
Buy small with a stop-loss
Buy 10% of your balance at market and set a stop-loss of 2–3% and a take-profit of 4–6%. Watch both lines appear on the chart.
Place a limit order
Switch to Limit and place a buy slightly below the current bid. Notice that it may never fill, which is the trade-off of a better price.
Close and review
Close the position, open the History tab and press AI review on the trade to get feedback on size, entry and exit.
Repeat with a rule
Write one rule from the review, such as "never risk more than 2% per trade", and follow it for the next five demo trades.
Tracking a few trades by hand teaches more than any single winning trade. If you want the theory behind each step, our guide on how to use AI for crypto trading walks through a full research-to-execution workflow.
What the AI coach does, and what it will not do
Press Explain this chart and the simulator sends a compact snapshot to the coach: the pair and timeframe, price, 24-hour and 7-day change, RSI, EMA trend, volatility, the recent range, the Fear & Greed reading and, if you hold a position, its profit or loss. The coach replies with a short explanation of momentum, trend and sentiment, two risks to watch and one learning tip.
After you close a trade, AI review looks at the process rather than the result: how big the position was relative to your account, whether you used a stop-loss, how the entry lined up with the indicators and why you exited. A lucky profit with no stop-loss gets flagged; a disciplined small loss gets credit.
| The AI coach will | The AI coach will not |
|---|---|
| Explain what RSI, trend and volatility suggest right now | Tell you to buy, sell or hold |
| Point out risks such as stretched momentum or extreme greed | Predict prices or give targets |
| Review position size and stop-loss discipline | Recommend coins, exchanges or products |
| Suggest one concrete rule to practise next | Remember your trades after the reply |
Practice grid and DCA bots on the live market
Below the coach you can start two practice bots that trade on the live feed while this tab stays open.
The grid bot splits a price range around the current price into levels. It buys when price dips to a level and sells when it bounces to the next one, booking a small profit each round trip. Start with a ±3% range and 12 grids on BTC-USD and watch the round-trip counter: in choppy markets it climbs steadily, and in a strong trend the bot ends up holding coins (on a drop) or sitting in cash (on a rally). That is the core lesson of our grid trading bots guide, and you can size a real grid with the grid bot profit calculator.
The DCA bot buys a fixed dollar amount on a schedule. Real DCA plans buy weekly or monthly; here the schedule is compressed to minutes so you can see averaging in action during one session. Compare your average entry with the price at the end of the run, then read what DCA is and model a long-term plan with the DCA calculator.
Paper trading vs real trading: what changes
Paper trading crypto is the safest way to learn mechanics, but it is honest to admit what it cannot teach. Real money changes behaviour: people move stop-losses, double down on losers and sell winners too early. Real markets also add slippage on bigger orders, outages during volatility, withdrawal times and taxes.
| This simulator | Real trading | |
|---|---|---|
| Prices, spread, order book | Live and real | Live and real |
| Fees | Fixed 0.1% per fill | Tiered by exchange and volume |
| Slippage on large orders | Not modelled | Yes, can be significant |
| Emotional pressure | None | The hardest part |
| Account security | Nothing to secure | 2FA, withdrawal whitelists, API key hygiene |
| Taxes | None | Usually taxable events |
A sensible rule: move to real trading only after you can show a written plan and at least 20 demo trades where you followed it, and then start with a small amount you can afford to lose. Before choosing a venue, check its licences and security record; our comparison of exchanges with AI tools lists both, and the best AI crypto trading bots overview covers automation options for later.
Practised enough? Trade the same market for real
The simulator runs on CEX.IO's live market data, so the charts, spreads and order book you practised on are the same ones you would trade. CEX.IO has operated since 2013 and is licensed in 39 US states plus DC and FCA-registered in the UK. Start small and keep your stop-loss habit.
Registrations checked October 2026 on the company's legal pages. Availability depends on your country; crypto is high-risk.

Frequently asked questions
Is this crypto trading simulator free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no payment and no download. You get $10,000 in virtual money, live prices and the AI coach for free. Your demo account is saved only in your own browser, so clearing site data or switching devices starts a fresh account.
Are the prices real?
Yes. Charts, the order book, recent trades and fills come from the public market-data API of CEX.IO, a regulated exchange operating since 2013. If that feed is temporarily unavailable, the simulator switches to CoinGecko data with coarser 30-minute candles and tells you so in the status line.
Can I lose real money here?
No. Every order is virtual. Nothing is connected to an exchange account, and the site never asks for API keys, wallets or payment details. When you want to trade for real, you need your own account with a licensed exchange, and real trading carries real risk.
How realistic are the demo fills?
Market buys fill at the live best ask and sells at the live best bid, plus a 0.1% fee, so you pay the spread like on a real exchange. What the simulator does not model is slippage on large orders, partial fills and outages, which is why paper results usually look better than live results.
Does the AI coach tell me what to buy?
No. It explains what the indicators and market mood suggest, names the risks and gives a learning tip, but it never says buy or sell and never predicts prices. It is a teaching aid, and like any AI it can be wrong.
Why do the practice bots stop when I close the tab?
Because everything runs in your browser. Nothing trades on our server while you are away. That keeps the simulator private and free, but it means bots only work while the page is open. Real bot platforms run on their own servers around the clock.
What is paper trading in crypto?
Paper trading means practising buys and sells with virtual money on real market prices. It lets you learn order types, test a strategy and build habits like setting a stop-loss without risking savings. It cannot teach you how fear and greed feel with real money on the line.
