Coinrule Review

Coinrule lets you build if-this-then-that trading rules without code, and now lets ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Grok build and manage them through MCP. It covers crypto and US stocks, but it does not serve the EU or EEA.

Our verdict

One of the easiest ways to automate trading rules without code, and one of the first bot platforms to let ChatGPT or Claude drive it through MCP. Pricing is muddled, security is thinly documented and EU/EEA residents cannot sign up.

Real AI 3.8
Security 3.4
Pricing transparency 3.2
Track record 3.8
Usability 4.4

Best for: Non-coders outside the EU/EEA who want simple rules on crypto or US stocks, and LLM users who want an agent to manage them.

Key takeaways

  • An if-this-then-that rule builder with 350+ templates and a demo exchange; no coding needed.
  • MCP integration lets ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Grok create, backtest and manage strategies, read-only or read-write.
  • Pricing: Free, $29.99, $59.99, and a Pro tier listed at $749/mo on the pricing page but $449.99/mo on the homepage.
  • Coinrule says it does not serve EU/EEA customers because of MiCA.

This Coinrule review is for people who want trading automation that reads like a sentence: "if BTC drops 5% in a day, buy $100". Coinrule built its product around that idea and has added an LLM layer on top, so an AI assistant can now write and manage the rules for you. It also connects to US stock brokers, which few crypto bot platforms do.

We checked the official homepage and pricing page and Coinrule's Trustpilot profile on 21 October 2026. Two things stood out: an inconsistent Pro price on the official site, and a flat refusal to serve EU and EEA customers.

What Coinrule is, and who it suits

Coinrule is a rule builder. Each rule has a trigger (a price move, an indicator reading, a time) and an action (buy, sell, move to stablecoin). You can start from one of 350+ templates or build your own in a visual editor, test it on a demo exchange, then run it live on a connected exchange or broker. Your funds stay with that exchange or broker.

It suits beginners who find grid and DCA settings confusing but can describe what they want in plain words. It also suits people who already use an LLM daily and want it to manage their rules. Advanced quants will find it limiting; they should look at Freqtrade. And if you live in the EU or EEA, it is not an option at all.

Coinrule AI: MCP agents and what they actually do

Coinrule describes its bots as "AI-built" and "agentic". Strip away the labels and there are two pieces.

MCP integration

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets an AI model use outside tools. Coinrule runs an MCP server, so ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Grok can connect to your account to create strategies, backtest them and manage running agents. You choose read-only access (the model can look and suggest) or read-write (it can change things). This is genuinely useful: you can ask "build me a rule that takes profit at 8% on ETH and stops out at 4%" and get a working, testable rule.

It is also a new kind of risk. An LLM with write access can misread an instruction, invent a parameter or confidently build something you did not mean. Start read-only, review every rule it proposes, and only grant write access once you trust the workflow. Our AI crypto trading agents guide covers how to set permission limits for agents, and using ChatGPT for crypto trading has prompt examples.

AI optimisations and credits

Paid plans include "AI optimizations" and an allowance of AI credits. Coinrule does not explain the optimisation method on its public pages. Treat it as parameter tuning: helpful, and prone to over-fitting if you optimise on the same data you test on.

On our five-level scale, Coinrule is "rules plus AI layer". The AI writes and tunes rules; the rules do the trading. That is a sensible design, because rules are predictable and auditable in a way an LLM trading directly is not.

Features beyond the rule builder

  • Templates: 350+ ready-made rules to copy and adjust.
  • Demo exchange: test rules with simulated funds.
  • Leverage trading: available, and it raises the risk sharply. Read our futures bots guide first.
  • Marketplace copy trading: copy other users' strategies.
  • TradingView signals: on Trader and above.
  • On-chain trading: rules on supported blockchains, plus Hyperliquid among the venues.

Coinrule claims to be "trusted by over 374,043 traders" with 1,395,960 strategies created. Those are its own figures.

The Pro price inconsistency

The pricing page lists Pro at $749 a month ($8,988 billed yearly). The homepage lists it at $449.99 a month. We cannot tell which is current. If you are considering Pro, confirm the figure at checkout and keep a screenshot.

The 0.02% volume figure

The pricing page's cost estimator shows "0.02% of traded volume" under each paid option. It does not say what the fee covers or whether it is charged on top of the subscription. If it is additive, it is small for most retail users: $100,000 of monthly volume would add $20. But it is a cost you should ask about before you commit, especially if your rules trade often.

The free Starter plan is a real way to try the product, though $3,000 of monthly volume and 2 rules fill up quickly. Coinrule offers a 14-day money-back guarantee per its FAQ. Our bot ROI calculator shows whether $29.99 a month makes sense for your account.

Availability: no EU/EEA, plus US stock brokers

Coinrule states that it does not serve EU or EEA customers because of MiCA, the EU's crypto-asset regulation. That rules out a large share of potential users. Do not get around it with a VPN: it can breach the terms and leave your account or funds stuck.

On the other side, Coinrule connects to crypto venues including Binance, Coinbase, Kraken, OKX, Bybit, Bitget, KuCoin and Hyperliquid, and to US stock brokers: Alpaca, Trading 212, Webull, Public and E*Trade. That makes it one of the few no-code tools that runs the same rule logic on crypto and equities. See our comparison of AI trading bots for stocks and crypto.

Security and API keys

Coinrule does not hold funds; it trades through API connections. Its public pages, however, say little about how keys are stored, whether withdrawal-enabled keys are rejected or whether IP whitelisting is supported. That is why its security score is 3.4. The MCP layer adds another consideration: an LLM with read-write access is effectively another user on your account.

Rules run on the exchange. Choose that exchange carefully

Coinrule executes on whichever venue you connect, so that venue holds your funds. For coins you are not actively trading, a long-running regulated exchange makes sense. CEX.IO has operated since 2013, holds money transmitter licences in 39 US states plus DC and is FCA-registered in the UK. It has no trading bots of its own and is not on Coinrule's venue list, so use it to buy and hold.

Registrations checked October 2026 on the company's legal pages. Availability depends on your country; crypto is high-risk.

Coinrule user reviews

On 21 October 2026 Coinrule had 4.1 out of 5 from 154 Trustpilot reviews, 12 of them in the previous 12 months. That is a good score but a small sample, and the low number of recent reviews means it mostly reflects older experiences. Trustpilot does not verify reviews. Read the newest ones for current issues.

How to start with Coinrule safely

01

Confirm you are eligible

If you live in the EU or EEA, Coinrule will not serve you. Check broker availability too if you plan to trade stocks.

02

Start on the free plan and demo exchange

Build one or two template rules and run them on simulated funds.

03

Connect an LLM in read-only mode

Let ChatGPT or Claude propose and backtest rules, then review its logic yourself.

04

Go live with a trade-only key

Withdrawals off, IP whitelist where possible, sub-account with a small balance.

05

Confirm pricing before upgrading

Check the Pro price and the 0.02% volume fee at checkout, and keep a screenshot.

Final verdict on Coinrule

Coinrule is one of the friendliest automation tools around. Plain-language rules, a big template library and a working MCP bridge to the major LLMs make it a natural fit for people who think in "if this, then that". The stock-broker support is a real differentiator.

It scores 3.7 because the basics around the product need work. The official site shows two different Pro prices, the volume fee is unexplained, security is barely documented, and EU and EEA residents are excluded. If you are outside Europe and want simple rules, possibly managed by an AI assistant, Coinrule is worth trying on the free plan. Just keep the LLM on a short leash.

Frequently asked questions

Is Coinrule available in the EU?

No. Coinrule states on its own website that it does not serve customers in the EU or EEA because of the MiCA regulation. If you live there, do not try to get around it with a VPN; look at alternatives such as Bitsgap or Cryptohopper instead, and check their terms for your country.

How much does Coinrule cost?

Starter is free (2 live rules, 1 exchange, $3,000 monthly volume). Investor is $29.99 a month or $359 a year, Trader $59.99 or $719 a year. Pro is listed at $749 a month ($8,988 a year) on the pricing page but $449.99 a month on the homepage, as of October 2026. A "0.02% of traded volume" figure also appears on paid tiers. Confirm at checkout.

Can ChatGPT or Claude trade on Coinrule?

Yes, through Coinrule's MCP integration. ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Grok can create strategies, run backtests and manage your agents, either read-only or with write access. Start with read-only so the model can analyse and suggest without changing live rules, and review anything it builds before you switch it on.

Is Coinrule safe?

Coinrule connects to your exchange or broker by API and does not hold your funds. Its public pages do not describe key storage or security controls in detail, so set up keys carefully: trading permission only, withdrawals disabled, IP whitelist where possible, and a sub-account with a capped balance. It is backed by Y Combinator and has a named leadership team.

Is Coinrule AI or just rules?

The engine is an if-this-then-that rule builder: conditions, indicators and timers trigger actions. The AI layer sits on top. Coinrule offers "AI optimizations" and AI credits per plan, and its MCP server lets external LLMs design and manage rules. The LLM writes the rules; the rules still do the trading.

Can I trade stocks on Coinrule?

Yes. Coinrule lists stock brokers including Alpaca, Trading 212, Webull, Public and E*Trade alongside crypto exchanges, so the same rules can run on US stocks. Broker availability depends on where you live. Our stocks and crypto bots guide compares multi-asset options.
