Key takeaways
- Most exchange "AI" is a chat assistant for research. Only a few let a model place orders, and the good ones default to read-only.
- The most useful new category is agent rails: Coinbase for Agents, OKX Agent Trade Kit, Kraken CLI, Binance Agent OS and Revolut X let your own AI connect with limits.
- AI copy trading (Bitget personas, MEXC AI-Masters, eToro Alpha Portfolios) is new and unaudited. Treat published returns as marketing.
- Licences matter more than features: Binance withdrew its MiCA bid in June 2026, MEXC has none, while Bybit, Coinbase, Kraken and others are authorised.
- Bybit lost about $1.5 billion in February 2025. Every big exchange on this list has had at least one incident, so read the table before you deposit.
Crypto exchanges with AI trading tools have multiplied since 2023, and the marketing has kept pace. "AI-powered" now covers anything from a ChatGPT wrapper that explains candlesticks to an agent toolkit that can open a leveraged perp position on its own. Those are very different products with very different risks, and most comparison pages lump them together.
We checked 15 platforms against their own announcements, help centres and regulator registers in October 2026. Below you will find what each exchange actually ships, how it is regulated, what it costs, and the security incidents it has had. Where we could not confirm something, the table says so instead of guessing. If you are here for standalone bots rather than exchanges, our ranking of the best AI crypto trading bots is the better starting point.
The four kinds of AI you will find on an exchange
Before comparing platforms, it helps to sort what they sell. We use four honest buckets. A single exchange can sit in several.
AI assistants
Chat tools that explain markets, summarise news and answer account questions. They do not trade for you. Examples: Bybit TradeGPT, KuCoin KIA, Crypto.com Amy, GateAI, Binance AI, eToro Tori and HTX Holo.
Agent rails
Interfaces that let an outside AI model (Claude, ChatGPT, your own agent) read data and place orders with set limits. Examples: Binance AI Pro and Agent OS, OKX Agent Trade Kit and OnchainOS, Coinbase AgentKit, x402 and Coinbase for Agents, Kraken CLI with MCP, Revolut X, HTX AI Skills and Gate for AI Agent.
AI copy trading
You copy a strategy run by an AI model or an AI-managed portfolio. Examples: Bitget GetAgent personas, MEXC AI-Masters (copy or reverse-copy LLM traders) and eToro Alpha Portfolios.
Built-in bots
Rule-based grid, DCA and rebalancing bots that run on the exchange, so no API key leaves the platform. Examples: Pionex (16+ bots), KuCoin, Crypto.com, HTX and MEXC, plus Binance and Bybit.
A fifth group deserves a mention: regulated exchanges with no AI at all. CEX.IO is the clearest example on our list. It has run since 2013 and publishes its US and UK registrations, but ships no assistant, bots or copy trading. That is a legitimate choice if you prefer to do your AI research elsewhere and want a plain account for buying and holding.
AI feature matrix: crypto exchanges with AI trading tools
This is the core comparison. "Assistant" means a chat tool inside the app. "Agent rails" means a documented way for an outside AI to act on your account. "Not verified" means we found no reliable source in October 2026, not that the feature is absent.

Two things stand out. First, the assistants are converging: they all summarise news and sentiment, and none of them has published evidence that its suggestions lead to better trades. Second, the agent rails are where the real engineering is happening. Kraken's CLI starts in read-only and paper-trading mode and needs explicit scopes for live trading. OKX's Agent Trade Kit requires your approval for write actions and has a demo mode. Revolut X makes you approve every order. That design philosophy, where the human signs off, is the one we would want before letting any model near real money. Our guide to AI crypto trading agents goes deeper on why.
Licences, MiCA status and proof of reserves
A slick AI assistant is worth little if the exchange behind it loses its licence in your country. The EU's MiCA regulation became the dividing line in 2025 and 2026: transitional periods ended (Spain's ran until 1 July 2026), and exchanges without authorisation had to restrict or leave. Proof of reserves (PoR) tells you whether customer balances are backed, though no PoR on this list is a full audit of liabilities.

The pattern is clear. The exchanges with the most aggressive AI marketing are not always the best regulated. MEXC has an eye-catching AI copy product and no MiCA licence, plus warnings from four regulators. Binance has the deepest liquidity and an agent product, but EU users have seen services wind down since July 2026. If you live in the EU, check the ESMA register or your national regulator before you sign up anywhere. Our explainer on whether AI crypto trading is legal and safe covers the rules country by country.
Fees, built-in bots and copy trading
If you plan to run bots or let an agent trade often, base trading fees decide more of your outcome than any AI feature. A bot that trades 20 times a day at 0.1% per side pays a lot of fees. Here are the base spot rates we could confirm on official pages, with gaps marked. These are the best crypto exchanges with AI trading bots built in, plus the ones where you bring your own.
Base spot fees and automation (lowest retail tier)
| Exchange | Base spot fee (maker / taker) | Built-in bots | Copy trading | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Binance | 0.10% / 0.10% (0.075% with BNB) | Spot and futures grid, DCA, rebalancing, arbitrage, TWAP | Not verified | Liquidity plus agent tooling |
| Bybit | Check fee page | Spot and futures grid, DCA, martingale, combo | Yes (leaderboard) | Derivatives traders in the EU |
| Bitget | Check fee page | Not verified | Yes, incl. AI personas | AI copy trading |
| OKX | Check fee page | Not verified | Not verified | Builders wiring agents to an exchange |
| KuCoin | 0.10% / 0.10% (20% off with KCS) | Grid, Infinity Grid, DCA, Smart Rebalance | Futures copy trading | Bots plus an assistant |
| Coinbase | Check Advanced fee page | None (recurring buys) | No | US users and agent builders |
| Kraken | 0.25% / 0.40% (Pro) | None (recurring buys) | No | Safe agent experiments |
| Crypto.com | Check fee page | DCA, TWAP, grid, arbitrage | None found | App users in the EU |
| Gate | 0.10% / 0.10% (VIP0) | Yes, types not verified | Yes | Agent tooling plus many coins |
| MEXC | 0% / 0.05% | Spot DCA, spot and futures grid | Yes, incl. AI-Masters | Low fees, high risk tolerance |
| HTX | ~0.2% (older pages) | Spot Grid, Grid Infiniti, Futures Grid 2.0, Trailing Grid | Yes | Grid users |
| Revolut X | 0.09% / 0.09% | None | No | UK and EEA Revolut users |
| eToro | 1% per buy or sell + spread | None | CopyTrader | Social investing |
| Pionex | 0.05% / 0.05% | 16+ free bots | Strategy copying | Cheap grid bots |
| CEX.IO | Tiered by 30-day volume; see official page | None | No | Buying and holding on a licensed venue |
Pionex and MEXC are the cheapest places to run bots, but both come with custody and licensing questions. Our Pionex review covers that trade-off in detail. If you want a grid strategy, the grid trading bots guide explains how to pick a range, and the grid bot profit calculator shows how fees eat thin grids. For copy trading, read our AI copy trading breakdown before you follow anyone, human or model.
Security incidents on exchanges with AI features
Every large exchange has been hit at some point. What separates them is how much was lost, whether customers were made whole and what changed afterwards. These are the main incidents we could source for the platforms above.
Major incidents, newest first
| Exchange | Date | What happened | Size | Customer outcome |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coinbase | Disclosed 15 May 2025 | Bribed overseas support contractors stole customer personal data | Cost estimate $180M–$400M | No passwords, keys or funds exposed; $20M ransom refused |
| Bybit | 21 Feb 2025 | ETH cold wallet drained via a compromised Safe{Wallet} front end; FBI attributed it to North Korea | ~$1.5B | Bybit reported 1:1 reserves restored within 72 hours |
| OKX (DEX) | 12–13 Dec 2023 | Suspected leaked proxy-admin key; deprecated DEX contract exploited | ~$2.7M | OKX said it would reimburse ~$370k to affected users |
| HTX | 22 Nov 2023 | Hot wallets and the Heco Bridge hit via private-key compromise | ~$113M | Compensation pledged by Justin Sun |
| Crypto.com | 17 Jan 2022 | 2FA bypass on 483 accounts | ~$34M | Users reimbursed |
| KuCoin | 26 Sep 2020 | Hot wallets hacked | ~$281M | ~$236M recovered; rest covered by insurance fund |
| Binance | 7 May 2019 | Phished API keys and 2FA codes; hot wallet withdrawal | ~7,000 BTC (~$40M) | Covered by the SAFU fund |
The Bybit case is the most instructive. Attackers did not break Bybit's own systems directly; they compromised the interface of a third-party multisig wallet so signers approved a transaction that looked routine. Our Bybit TradeGPT review explains what that means for users. The Coinbase incident shows a different risk: no coins moved, but stolen personal data fuels phishing calls for years. If an exchange "support agent" ever asks you to move funds, hang up.
Gate also faces a long-standing allegation, made by on-chain investigator ZachXBT, that it never disclosed a roughly $230 million hack in 2018. Gate has not confirmed it, so we list it here only as an allegation. For the exchanges without a row, including Bitget, Kraken and MEXC, we found no major exchange hack in our checks. That is useful, but the absence of a report is not proof of safety.
Prefer a regulated account without the AI hype?
CEX.IO does not offer AI assistants, bots or copy trading. What it does publish is a FinCEN MSB registration with money transmitter licences for 39 US states plus DC, and FCA registration in the UK. Plenty of traders keep research in independent AI tools and custody on a long-running exchange.
Registrations checked October 2026 on the company's legal pages. Availability depends on your country; crypto is high-risk.

How to choose between crypto exchanges with AI trading tools
Start from your situation, not from the feature list. A crypto exchange with an AI trading assistant is nice to have; a licence in your country, low fees for your trading style and a clean security record are need-to-haves.
Confirm the exchange serves your country
Bitget is unavailable in the US, Canada, France and Germany. Binance has restricted EU services since July 2026. MEXC is leaving the Netherlands and does not serve the US, Canada or the UK. Check the terms page before you upload ID.
Decide which kind of AI you need
Research help? Any assistant will do, and an independent model may be better. Automation? Look for built-in bots or agent rails with approval steps. Copying? Read the copy trading checks first.
Check licence and reserves
Prefer a MiCA licence in the EU, state licences in the US and FCA registration in the UK. Look for monthly proof of reserves with a named auditor or an open-source verifier.
Price your real usage
Multiply your expected trades by the fee. A 1% fee per trade on eToro and a 0.05% fee on Pionex are very different for a bot. Our bot ROI calculator does the maths.
Lock down any AI or API access
Sub-account, trade-only permission, withdrawals disabled, IP whitelist, small balance. Start read-only and paper trade where the exchange allows it (Kraken CLI and OKX Agent Trade Kit both do).
Read the incident history
Not to rule exchanges out, but to see how they responded. Fast, transparent reimbursement counts for a lot.
Our take by trader type
There is no single winner. These are the platforms we would look at first for each kind of user, based on the tables above.
- You want an assistant that also trades: Bitget GetAgent is the most complete in-app agent, if Bitget serves your country.
- You want to connect Claude or ChatGPT safely: Kraken CLI and Coinbase for Agents have the most conservative defaults. OKX Agent Trade Kit is the richest toolkit for developers.
- You want built-in bots with no subscription: Pionex, KuCoin or Binance. See our Binance AI tools page for its bot list and EU caveats.
- You trade derivatives in the EU: Bybit has a MiCA licence from Austria and a full bot suite, with the 2025 hack as context.
- You just want to buy and hold on a licensed venue: a regulated exchange without AI, such as CEX.IO (our review), paired with independent research tools from our AI crypto tools directory.
Whatever you choose, remember that the AI on an exchange is built by the company that earns fees when you trade. That is not a reason to avoid it, but it is a reason to cross-check its suggestions with tools that have no stake in your order flow, such as the AI sentiment analysis tools we track. Nothing here is financial advice, and crypto can lose value quickly.
Frequently asked questions
Which crypto exchange has the best AI?
It depends on what you mean by AI. For a chat assistant inside the app, Bitget GetAgent and KuCoin KIA are the most complete. For connecting your own AI model to a trading account, OKX Agent Trade Kit, Kraken CLI and Coinbase for Agents are better built, with read-only defaults and approval steps. No exchange AI has a verified track record of beating the market.
Does Binance have an AI trading bot?
Binance has rule-based bots (Spot Grid, Futures Grid, Spot DCA, Rebalancing, Arbitrage and TWAP) and, since March 2026, a paid beta called Binance AI Pro that lets AI models place orders from a sub-account that cannot withdraw. A free research assistant, Binance AI, started rolling out in New Zealand on 5 October 2026. Details are on our Binance AI page.
Is an exchange AI assistant the same as a trading bot?
No. Assistants like Bybit TradeGPT, Crypto.com Amy or GateAI answer questions and summarise markets. A bot executes a fixed strategy such as a grid. An agent sits in between: a language model that can decide and place orders. Our guide to AI crypto trading agents explains the difference and the extra risks.
Which exchanges with AI tools are licensed under MiCA?
As of October 2026, Bybit (Austria), Coinbase (Luxembourg), Kraken (Ireland), Crypto.com and Gate (Malta), eToro and Revolut (Cyprus) and KuCoin (Austria, except Malta) hold MiCA authorisation, and OKX received Maltese pre-authorisation in January 2025. Bitget and CEX.IO have applications pending. Binance withdrew its Greek application in June 2026, and MEXC has none.
Can I connect ChatGPT or Claude to my exchange account?
Yes, on several exchanges. Coinbase for Agents, Kraken CLI, OKX Agent Trade Kit, Revolut X and HTX AI Skills all let AI assistants read data and, with permission, place orders. Start read-only, use a sub-account, and never grant withdrawal rights. Our ChatGPT for crypto guide covers safe workflows.
Are exchange AI copy-trading personas worth following?
Treat them as experiments. Bitget's six AI personas and MEXC's AI-Masters (copying models like DeepSeek or Claude) publish returns, but the history is short and the results come from the exchange itself. Size positions as if you could lose them, and judge drawdown before return. See AI copy trading for the checks we use.
Do I need an exchange with AI features to use AI for trading?
No. You can do the research with independent AI tools and keep your account on any exchange you trust. Many people prefer that split: general models and analytics for thinking, a regulated venue for custody. Our AI trading workflow guide shows how to put it together.
