Key takeaways

  • Nansen AI is our top pick for on-chain AI analytics: it researches wallets and tokens, then executes trades in the same chat.
  • For budgets under $100 a month, CryptoQuant (Ask AI from free) and Dune (AI-written SQL, $65/month) give the most per dollar.
  • MCP servers are now standard. Nansen, Dune, Glassnode, CryptoQuant and Santiment can all feed data into Claude, and several into ChatGPT.
  • The market moved fast in 2026: Blockworks bought Messari, IntoTheBlock became Sentora and sunset its app, and Nansen rebranded as Nansen AI.
  • On-chain data is context, not a crystal ball. Use it to avoid bad trades, not to promise good ones.

Every crypto transfer is public, but a raw block explorer is useless for most traders. On-chain AI analytics closes that gap: it labels who owns which wallets, summarises what they are doing and answers questions in plain English. The best tools now go further and let an AI agent act on what it finds.

We compared eight on-chain platforms on what the AI really does, how much data you get for the money and how easily the data reaches your own AI assistant. Prices are list prices read from official pages on 21 October 2026.

What on-chain AI analytics actually does

Strip away the marketing and there are three distinct things vendors call "AI" in this category:

  • AI analysts and agents. You ask a question ("what are smart-money wallets buying on Base this week?") and the model queries labelled data, writes an answer and, in Nansen's case, can place the trade. This is the newest and most useful layer.
  • AI query builders. Dune's Wand tools turn a sentence into SQL, fix broken queries and edit existing ones. You still need to understand what the query returns, but you no longer need to write it.
  • AI event feeds and rule generators. Arkham Insights streams AI-written events that link a catalyst to on-chain flows. Glassnode Alpha Lab turns a hypothesis into testable rules with return and drawdown statistics.

Underneath all three sits the same raw material: entity labels. A tool that knows a wallet belongs to a market maker, a fund or an exchange hot wallet is worth far more than one with a slicker chatbot. That is why Nansen and Arkham, which invested for years in attribution, lead the category.

Tool-by-tool notes: what you get for the money

Nansen AI: research that ends in a trade

Nansen rebranded its whole site around "Nansen AI" and simplified to one paid plan. The agent answers wallet and token questions using Nansen's Smart Money labels, then executes spot or perps trades in the same conversation, routed through Jupiter, OKX and LI.FI. The mobile app uses a non-custodial Privy wallet, so funds stay in a wallet you control rather than on Nansen. The API is credit-based at $10 per 10,000 credits, and MCP connectors exist for ChatGPT, Claude and Grok. Our main criticism: the free tier is thin outside Solana, and "unlimited" on Pro is subject to fair-use limits.

Arkham Intelligence: the attribution engine

Arkham's entity labels and visual network maps are the quickest way to follow a hack, a fund unwinding or an exchange moving cold-wallet reserves. The Insights terminal adds a stream of AI-generated events, each tying a market catalyst to on-chain, exchange, macro and news context. Coverage was 18 chains as of June 2025 according to its docs.

Two caveats. First, Arkham also runs Arkham Exchange with spot and perpetuals and an ARKM rewards programme, which is a conflict of interest when the same company publishes intelligence on other venues. Second, its website blocked our automated checks and the docs do not publish prices, so we list pricing as unverified.

Glassnode: deep history for BTC and ETH

Glassnode is the source analysts quote when they talk about long-term holder supply or realised price. Advanced ($49/month, annual billing) gives 300+ metrics at daily resolution with four years of history but no API. Professional (from $584/month) unlocks 1,500+ metrics, 15+ years of history, 10-minute resolution and a commercial licence; API access is an add-on to Professional only. Alpha Lab, still in beta, is the AI-adjacent feature: describe an idea, pick metrics, and it returns rules you can test. Altcoin coverage is much thinner than for bitcoin and ether.

Dune: let the AI write the SQL

Dune's community has written queries for almost every protocol across 100+ chains. The Wand tools mean you can ask for "daily unique buyers of token X on Base" and get working SQL. Analyst ($65/month) includes three seats and 4,000 credits; Plus ($349/month) adds private queries and CSV export. Dune is also the strongest "bring your own AI" source: its MCP server lets an assistant search tables, run queries and build charts. The free plan now only lets you view and copy existing work, not run queries.

CryptoQuant: exchange flows on a budget

CryptoQuant is where many traders watch exchange reserves and miner flows. Its Ask AI assistant has hard caps by plan: 5 a day on free Basic, 50 on Advanced ($29), 200 on Professional ($99) and 1,500 on Premium ($799, annual billing only). The pricing FAQ mentions Professional at both $99 and $109, which suggests the lower figure is the annual rate. Advanced indicators are BTC-only on the lower tiers.

Bitcoin coins scattered across a dark screen of glowing blue and orange market data lines
On-chain flows add context to price charts, but they are not a trading signal on their own.

Bubblemaps: no AI, still essential

Bubblemaps draws token holders as connected bubbles so you can see when a few linked wallets hold most of the supply. It is embedded in Etherscan, CoinGecko and DEX Screener, covers 15 chains and the consumer app is free. API plans start at $170/month ($136 on yearly billing). We include it because no AI tool replaces a two-second visual check before you buy a new token.

What changed in the on-chain analytics market

If you last looked at this category in 2025, several names have moved:

ChangeWhat it means for youDate
Blockworks acquired Messarimessari.io pricing redirects to Blockworks Intel; Pro is $375/mo billed annually ($4,500/yr). Old UI reachable until 31 Oct 2026Announced 12 Jun 2026
IntoTheBlock became SentoraLegacy web app, widgets and API sunset; free research only, institutional DeFi focusChecked Oct 2026
Nansen became "Nansen AI"One Pro plan, AI agent with trade execution, MCP connectorsChecked Oct 2026
MCP became standardMost vendors now let Claude or ChatGPT query their data directly2025–2026

Blockworks Intel Pro now carries Messari's research alongside AI article summaries, daily AI news recaps, project recaps and an AI chat. Full API and MCP access sits behind a sales conversation, so it is aimed at funds rather than individuals. We would wait for the merger to settle before committing to an annual plan.

How to connect on-chain data to Claude or ChatGPT via MCP

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is a standard way for an AI assistant to call outside tools. For on-chain analytics, it means you can ask Claude "which wallets accumulated this token in the last week?" and it queries Nansen or Dune directly instead of guessing from stale training data. This is the single biggest practical upgrade in the category, and it is why our AI model comparison rates Claude highly for crypto research.

The exact setup differs by assistant and plan, but the pattern is the same everywhere:

01

Open an account with the data provider

Most MCP servers need a paid plan or API credits. Check which tier includes MCP before subscribing: Glassnode includes it on both plans, Dune charges credits per call.

02

Find the official MCP server address

Use the URL from the provider's own documentation only (Dune's, for example, is listed in its docs as api.dune.com/mcp/v1). Community servers on registries are unaudited code.

03

Add it as a connector in your assistant

In Claude, add it as a custom connector or in your Claude Code or Desktop MCP settings; in ChatGPT, use connectors where your plan supports them. Authenticate with the provider's API key or login.

04

Keep it read-only

Data connectors only read. If you later add an exchange or wallet tool that can trade, keep it separate and require approval for every order. Our AI trading agents guide covers safe permissions.

05

Ask for sources, then verify

Tell the assistant to show which query or metric it used. Spot-check a number on the provider's dashboard before you act on it.

Benefits of AI on-chain analytics for crypto trading, and the limits

The real benefits are speed and coverage. A question that used to need an analyst, a SQL query and an hour now takes a sentence and a minute. Labelled data lets you see whether a rally is driven by funds, exchanges topping up hot wallets or a cluster of fresh wallets that probably belong to one person. For token due diligence, the combination of holder maps and smart-money flows catches many obvious rugs before you buy.

The limits are just as real. Labels are probabilistic, and a mislabelled wallet can flip the meaning of a flow. LLM summaries can misread data or state wrong figures with confidence. And on-chain activity says nothing about off-chain order books, OTC deals or derivatives positioning on centralised exchanges. Treat AI output as a lead to verify, then combine it with social data from our AI crypto sentiment analysis guide and your own risk rules.

Act on your research from a regulated account

On-chain tools tell you what wallets are doing; they do not hold your coins. If you are buying the assets you research, CEX.IO is a long-running option: operating since 2013, a FinCEN-registered MSB with money transmitter licences in 39 US states plus DC, and FCA-registered in the UK.

Registrations checked October 2026 on the company's legal pages. Availability depends on your country; crypto is high-risk.

Frequently asked questions

What is on-chain AI analytics?

It is software that reads public blockchain data (transfers, wallet balances, DEX trades, exchange deposits) and uses AI to make it usable. In practice that means AI-written summaries of wallet activity, natural-language questions that become SQL queries, and agents that can explain a token move and then place a trade. The data is public; the value is in the labels and the speed.

Is Nansen AI worth paying for?

For active on-chain traders, usually yes. The free plan gives 20 agent credits a week and full Solana analytics, which is enough to test it. Pro at $69 monthly ($49/month billed yearly) unlocks all chains, Smart Money labels and 2,000 credits a week. If you only hold BTC and ETH long term, CryptoQuant or Glassnode may give you more for less. See our Nansen AI review.

Is Arkham Intelligence free?

Arkham's core intelligence platform has historically been free to use, but we could not confirm current pricing because its site blocked automated checks and the docs do not publish prices. API access is by application only. Remember that Arkham also operates an exchange, so the company both publishes intelligence and runs a trading venue.

Can I connect on-chain data to ChatGPT or Claude?

Yes. Nansen, Dune, Glassnode, CryptoQuant, Santiment and LunarCrush all publish MCP servers that let an AI assistant query their data. Claude has the broadest support today. You usually need an account and an API key or credits with the data provider, and the assistant then calls the tools on your behalf. Start with read-only data access before connecting anything that can trade.

Which on-chain tool is best for memecoins?

Use two. Bubblemaps (free app, no AI) shows whether a handful of linked wallets hold most of the supply, which is the fastest red-flag check for new tokens. Nansen AI then tells you whether labelled smart-money wallets are buying or selling. Neither can tell you the price will go up.

Does on-chain data predict prices?

Not reliably on its own. Exchange inflows, whale transfers and smart-money buying are context, not signals with a known hit rate. They help you avoid trades against obvious selling pressure and spot insider-heavy tokens. Combine them with your own risk limits and test any rule before using real money.

What happened to Messari and IntoTheBlock?

Blockworks announced it had acquired Messari on 12 June 2026, and messari.io pricing now redirects to Blockworks Intel (Pro is $375/month billed annually). IntoTheBlock redirects to Sentora, which sunset the legacy web app, widgets and API and now publishes free research while focusing on institutional DeFi.
